Psychologist.

Jess is an AHPRA registered Psychologist and a registered Medicare provider. She completed her Master of Professional Psychology at Macquarie University and has undertaken clinical hypnotherapy training with a specific brain-gut focus, along with various post graduate training courses, including the “Cool Kids” anxiety programme. 

 

She has experience working in school settings and private practice, supporting children, adolescents and adults with concerns such as anxiety, depression, stress, functional gastrointestinal disorders, PTSD, life transitions and grief and loss.

 

Jess also has special interest in the brain-gut interaction and is passionate about assisting both children and adults with Functional Gastrointestinal symptoms. Gastrointestinal concerns treated include; IBS, reflux, recurrent abdominal pain, Functional Dyspepsia, Rumination Syndrome and Aerophagia. Jess utilises cognitive behavioural therapy, mindfulness and gut-directed hypnotherapy as these therapies have been found to reduce symptoms and the psychological distress associated with GI complaints whilst improving coping skills and quality of life. Jess also provides supportive counselling for those living with inflammatory bowel disease, such as Crohn’s disease and Ulcerative Colitis.

 

Jess works closely and collaboratively with adult and paediatric gastroenterologists, dieticians, GPs and other health professionals, including bariatric surgeons, to best support her clients.

 

Jess works from a strengths-based perspective incorporating a range of evidence-based modalities such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Motivational Interviewing to motivate change, and facilitate awareness, acceptance and hope in her clients. She provides a safe, respectful, caring and positive environment for her clients to safely explore challenges. Jess holds the power of the therapeutic relationship in high regard and collaborates with her clients to reach their treatment goals and guide them towards living their best lives.

 

 

Approach

Jess provides individual counselling and psychology services to school age children, young people and adults. She takes the viewpoint that our struggles are what unites us and makes us human. We all have times in our lives when we for example experience difficult emotions, stress, loss, physical health challenges, poor self-esteem or strained relationships. Jess provides a safe, nurturing and respectful environment for each individual to explore their current challenges and gain insight into the background, maintenance and effect of these challenges. Jess holds the power of the client-therapist relationship in high regard and collaborates with her clients to reach their individual treatment goals and guide them towards living their best lives. She draws upon professional and lived experiences to enhance the therapeutic relationship. Whether it is children, young people or adults, Jess has an ability to genuinely connect with clients, forming trusting relationships. Working from a holistic, strengths-based approach, Jess encourages each individual to utilise their strengths, build resilience and acquire practical skills to manage emotions, thoughts and actions. She provides a safe, respectful, positive and encouraging environment for clients to explore their personal and emotional difficulties. Jess is passionate about empowering her clients to embrace change and hope, to get them back in control and enjoying improved quality of life.

Jess is a registered psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and the Psychology Board of Australia. She practices in line with the Psychologists Code of Conduct and Ethics, providing high quality evidence-based treatment.
